DE WAILLY CLOISTER Preservation, Adaptive Reuse 2011
Our approach for the restoration of a jewel in the heart of "one of the most perfectly preserved 18th century city centers of the country" centered around a monumental staircase leading to a conference and events room ("the bubble").
This bubblel was intended to attract attention and concentrate public traffic in the renovated and glass-covered courtyard of the monastery. From a functional point of view, the office and cultural spaces would be integrated into this mixture of renovated historical buildings and modern design, thus reinforcing the current and historical character of the city of Amiens. All the facades of the cloister have been restored to keep in mind this architectural type.
