39 RUE CHAPON BUILDING Restoration, Adaptive Reuse, Paris 2011
SA Architects has provided complete architectural and interior design services for the preservation of this 18th century building. The work involved the walls, floors on each floor and the main staircase of the building, as well as a lobby gallery linking the building to the Marais artistic district.
During the course of the three-year project, the historic building had to be completely dismantled due to structural problems. It has been carefully assembled with partial restorations, with a new foundation and a flexible layout of the apartments which allows configurations adaptable over the lifetime of the residents. The sunny and modern interior of the condos created is illuminated by a modern vertical circulation and integrated into the existing space.
